Remember when we blogged about the Tanzanian doctor strike? They won, in theory, but tensions have flared up again, most notably in the beating of the doctors’ public representative, Dr Ulimboka.
Tanzania has so prided itself on peace, especially compared with the strife and corruption of some of its African neighbours. Yet this incident sees violence take preference over due process in a supposedly democratic country. It is troubling news indeed.
Tanzania needs its doctors! And it also needs law-makers of integrity and politicians who seek the good of others over expedience. Tanzania needs leaders who seek peace.
